If you've been in Tenerife more than two years, there's a good chance you've already replaced a kettle, called out an engineer for a boiler that "just stopped working," or watched a washing machine slowly give up the ghost. And here's what nobody tells you when you move here: it wasn't a coincidence, and it wasn't bad luck. It was your water.

The Water Problem Nobody Warned You About

Tenerife doesn't have rivers. It doesn't have reservoirs in the traditional sense. Almost all of the island's domestic water comes from desalination plants — industrial facilities that take seawater and strip out the salt. What's left is then treated with chlorine and pumped into your home.

The result? Water that is technically safe to drink, but chemically brutal on everything it touches. It's loaded with dissolved minerals — calcium, magnesium, bicarbonates — that don't evaporate when the water does. They stay behind. They build up. And over months and years, they destroy things from the inside out.

That orange bar isn't a typo. Tenerife South has some of the hardest tap water in all of Europe — two to three times harder than what you were used to in the UK. Your appliances were never designed for it.

"After moving from Manchester, my brand new kettle was ruined in four months. I thought it was faulty — Adam told me within thirty seconds what the actual problem was."

What Limescale Is Doing to Your Home Right Now

Limescale isn't just an aesthetic problem. It's an insulating layer of rock that forms on every heated surface it touches — and heating elements have to work harder and harder to push heat through it, until eventually they can't cope at all.

The Damage Report
🫧
Washing Machine
Limescale coats the heating element, drum seal and drum bearings. Clothes feel scratchy. The machine vibrates. Then the element burns out entirely.
⚠ Replacement: €600–€900
🔥
Boiler & Hot Water
Scale lines the heat exchanger and water tank. The boiler runs inefficiently for months, then fails. Replacement bills in Tenerife can be brutal.
⚠ Replacement: €1,200–€2,500
🍽️
Dishwasher
Spray arm nozzles clog with mineral deposits. Limescale films build on glassware. The heating element strains, and rinse quality drops dramatically.
⚠ Replacement: €450–€800
Kettles & Coffee Machines
The most visible damage — and usually the first sign. White flakes in your morning coffee. Elements go within months in a Tenerife kitchen.
⚠ Replacement: €50–€300

The Maths That Changes Everything

Here's where most people have their lightbulb moment. Not when they hear about limescale — but when they actually add up what it's cost them since they moved to Tenerife.

And that's before you factor in the hassle of sourcing appliances in Tenerife, waiting for engineers, and living without hot water or clean clothes while things get sorted.

The Fix: Three Systems, One Problem Solved

The good news is that once you filter Tenerife's water, the problem stops. Full stop. Limescale can't form from water that doesn't carry the minerals that cause it. Here's what Adam and Max install — and which one is right for your home.

Questions We Get Asked Every Week

Can't I just buy a descaler from the supermarket?
Descalers treat the symptom after the fact — they dissolve scale that's already formed. They don't stop it building up again next week. It's the difference between mopping your floor every day and fixing the leaking roof. Our filters stop the minerals reaching your appliances in the first place.
I rent my property — can I still have a filter installed?
Many of our customers rent, and landlords are usually very receptive — they're protecting appliances they own. We'd recommend the under-sink carbon filter at €199 for renters who want clean drinking water with minimum hassle. For a whole-house system, a quick conversation with your landlord often does the trick — most say yes straight away.
How long does installation take?
An under-sink filter takes 45–60 minutes. A reverse osmosis system is usually done within 90 minutes. Whole house systems typically take 2–3 hours depending on your property. We leave everything clean and tidy, and walk you through exactly how your system works before we leave.
Do I need to do any maintenance myself?
Nothing at all. We track every installation we do and send you a reminder when filter changes are due — typically annually. You just reply to confirm, we come out and handle it. Lifetime support is included with every system as standard.
My washing machine is already damaged — is it too late?
It's never too late to stop the damage getting worse — but it won't reverse what's already happened. If your machine is still salvageable, a filter prevents further scale build-up. If you're replacing it anyway, install the filter at the same time so your new machine is protected from day one.
