Frequently Asked Questions
Find the answers you need, whether you're a homeowner or a business owner in Tenerife.
Can you drink the tap water in Tenerife?
Yes, but... Tap water in Tenerife is technically safe to drink according to local health authorities. However, here's what you need to know:
Why most people don't drink it:
- Harsh chlorine taste: The water comes from desalination plants and is heavily treated with chlorine, giving it a chemical taste that ruins tea and coffee
- High mineral content: The water is very "hard" with minerals that cause severe limescale buildup
- Appliance damage: Limescale destroys kettles, coffee machines, and dishwashers within months
- Unpleasant for bathing: The chlorine smell is noticeable in showers and can affect hair and skin
What British expats in Tenerife do instead:
- Buy bottled water: Costs €40-80/month for a family – expensive and heavy to carry
- Install water filters: From €199 for a system that removes chlorine taste and limescale, paying for itself in 3-5 months
Most residents in Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, and Arona use filtered water for drinking and cooking. Get a free water test to see what's in your tap water, or check our pricing for water filter systems.
Why do I need a water filter in Tenerife?
Tenerife's tap water is safe, but it comes from desalination plants and is heavily treated with chlorine, giving it a harsh chemical taste. It's also very "hard," full of minerals like calcium that cause limescale. Our filters solve both problems: they remove the bad taste and the damaging limescale, giving you water that's better than bottled.
Is filtered water really as good as bottled water?
It's better! Bottled water sits in plastic and can be exposed to heat, which affects its purity and can leach microplastics. Our systems filter your water on demand, right at your tap. We're so confident, we offer a free taste test during our consultation.
How much money will I save at home?
A typical family in Tenerife spends around €40-€80 per month on bottled water. Our basic €199 system can pay for itself in 3-5 months on that alone, not including the long-term savings from protecting your appliances. Use the calculator on our pricing page to see your exact savings!
What are the ongoing costs for a home system?
The only ongoing cost is an annual filter change. This costs between €50-€70 per year depending on the system. We send you a friendly reminder when it's time, so you don't have to think about it.
How long does a home installation take?
A standard installation is quick and clean, typically taking just 1-2 hours. We work efficiently with minimal disruption, leaving your kitchen exactly as we found it.
What is your guarantee for home systems?
We offer a 30-day, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. If you don't absolutely love your new water, we will remove the system and give you a full refund. We also provide comprehensive warranties of up to 10 years.

What is the difference between the €199, €399, and €699 systems?
We offer three levels of protection for Tenerife homes:
- Basic (€199): A simple filtration system that removes chlorine and bad tastes.
- Drinking Water Purifier (€399): A Reverse Osmosis (RO) system installed under your sink with a dedicated tap. It fully purifies the water, removing all contaminants and then adding healthy minerals back in.
- Whole-House Protection (€699): Our most popular "all-in-one" solution. It includes the Under-Sink RO system for drinking AND a main-inlet system that protects your entire home (boiler, washing machine, and showers) from limescale.
Purchasing the whole-house system saves you €100 compared to buying the systems separately later.
Does the drinking water system require a separate tap?
Yes. Our Reverse Osmosis system includes a small, stylish dedicated tap installed on your worktop next to your sink. This ensures your purified drinking water (used for filling bottles, kettles, and coffee machines) is kept separate from your standard washing-up water, making your filters last much longer.
Does Reverse Osmosis remove the "good" minerals from water?
While Reverse Osmosis is highly effective at removing contaminants, it also removes minerals. However, our system includes a remineralisation cartridge. This adds a consistent balance of Calcium, Magnesium, and trace amounts of Potassium and Sodium back into the water. This ensures your water is alkaline, healthy, and tastes like high-quality bottled mineral water.
How does the whole-house system actually stop limescale?
We use food-grade polyphosphate crystals. As water enters your home, these crystals slowly dissolve and chemically bind with hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium). This process, called "sequestration," keeps the minerals suspended in the water so they cannot stick to your pipes, heating elements, or glass shower screens. It is a highly effective scale inhibitor that saves your boiler and washing machine from Tenerife's hard water.
How do I know when it is time to change the filters?
For a typical household of four people, we recommend a service every 12 months. You will often notice a slight change in the taste of the water when the filters are reaching the end of their life. We keep track of your installation date and will send you a reminder when your annual service is due.
I live in a complex with difficult access/hills. Do you deliver?
Absolutely. Unlike bottled water delivery companies that often struggle with steep hills or gated complexes in areas like Adeje, we come to you for a one-time installation. Once the system is in, you never have to worry about delivery trucks or carrying heavy plastic bottles up your stairs again.
What's included in the monthly rental fee for businesses?
Everything. The monthly fee is all-inclusive. It covers the commercial-grade system, professional installation, all scheduled maintenance, all filter changes, and priority support. There are no hidden costs, giving you a predictable monthly expense.
Why is renting better than buying for my business?
Renting is a strategic operational expense, not a capital investment. You get the full benefit with zero upfront cost, and our all-inclusive service plan means you never have to worry about surprise repair bills or maintenance. It's total peace of mind that protects your cash flow.
Can this really save my business money?
Absolutely. Our systems deliver a clear ROI by 1) Eliminating the cost of bottled water for staff or customers, 2) Drastically reducing appliance breakdowns and repair bills, 3) Slashing your use of expensive detergents, salts, and chemicals by up to 50%, and 4) Freeing up staff from polishing glassware. Visit our pages for Appliance Protection or Office Coolers to see an ROI calculator.
Will the installation disrupt my business service?
No. We understand that downtime is not an option. We schedule all commercial installations at your convenience, often before you open, to ensure zero disruption to your staff, customers, or service.
What kind of businesses do you work with?
We provide solutions for any business that relies on water. Our main clients include bars, restaurants, cafes, hotels, and offices of all sizes across Tenerife. If your business is struggling with limescale or the cost of bottled water, we can help.
What if our rental system has a problem?
You get priority support. Our service plan means we are on call to resolve any issues quickly and efficiently, ensuring your business operations continue smoothly. We are your water partners; your uptime is our priority.
