Moving to Tenerife is one of the best decisions you'll ever make. But in the excitement of the move — setting up the WiFi, finding the nearest Mercadona, getting the car sorted — there's one thing almost nobody tells you about. The water here is unlike anything you've experienced in the UK. And the sooner you deal with it, the better.

The Week One Checklist

Most expats arrive with a mental checklist. Here's what that checklist usually looks like — and what's quietly missing from it:

What You'll Notice First

Within the first few days in your new home, you'll start picking up on things. Some of them are the delights of Tenerife life — the sun, the warmth, the pace. And then there's the water.

❌ What you'll notice without a filter
🫧 White film on glasses and crockery from the dishwasher
Tea and coffee that taste flat or slightly chemical
🚿 Hair feels dry and dull after every shower
🪣 Kettle gets a white crust inside within weeks
👃 That faint chlorine smell from every tap
💸 Buying heavy bottles of water every single week
✓ What you'll experience with a filter
Sparkling glasses, no white film, no residue
Tea and coffee that finally "taste like home"
🚿 Noticeably softer hair and skin within days
🪣 Kettle stays clean — no limescale, ever
💧 Pure, fresh water from every tap. No smell.
🛒 Never buy a water bottle again

"Within a week of the system being installed, my wife said it was the best thing we'd done since moving here. Better than the car, better than the sofa. I think she meant it."

— Steve, British expat, Los Cristianos (whole house system, 2024)

Why Sorting It Early Matters

Here's what most people don't realise until it's too late: Tenerife's water doesn't just affect what you drink. It silently works away at everything in your home from the moment you move in.

Every time your washing machine runs a cycle, limescale builds up on the heating element. Every time your boiler fires, scale lines the heat exchanger. Every time your dishwasher washes a load, mineral deposits are slowly clogging the spray arms. It's not dramatic — you won't notice it happening. Until one day, something breaks.

The average washing machine in Tenerife without filtered water lasts around two years. With a whole house filter installed from day one, it lasts its full expected lifespan — typically eight to ten years. The same goes for your boiler, your dishwasher, your kettle. Sort the water first, and everything else takes care of itself.

💡
The earlier you install, the more you save.

Every month without a filter is another month of limescale building inside your appliances. A whole house system from day one means zero limescale damage, ever — not just less damage over time. New home = clean slate. Don't give the scale a head start.

Which System Is Right for Your New Home?

The right system depends on whether you're in a rental or a property you own, and how much of your home you want to protect. Here's how we'd think about it:

Pure filtered water, straight from your tap. No bottles. No trips to the supermarket. No limescale. Just water the way it should taste.

Things New Arrivals Ask Us

I'm renting — can I still get a filter installed?
Absolutely. The under-sink carbon filter at €199 is designed exactly for renters — it requires minimal installation and leaves no permanent changes to the property. Many of our customers rent, and landlords almost never object. For renters who want the full reverse osmosis experience, a conversation with your landlord usually results in a yes — they're protecting their own appliances too.
How quickly can you come out after I contact you?
We aim for same-day response on all enquiries and typically install within a few days of your first message — often sooner. New arrivals are a priority for us because we know how much is on your plate in the first weeks. WhatsApp us and we'll get something in the diary fast.
Do I need to be in for the installation?
Yes — we'd always recommend being present so we can show you how your system works, walk you through the maintenance schedule, and answer any questions. The installation itself is clean, quick and typically done in under 90 minutes. We leave everything tidy and explain everything clearly before we leave.
I've already been here six months — is it too late to benefit?
Never too late. While the ideal time is week one, the second best time is today. Installing now stops all future limescale damage immediately — and you'll notice the water quality difference the same day. If you've been buying bottles, that expense stops the moment we walk out the door.

Ultra Pure Water Tenerife · British expats, Costa Adeje since 2020

We moved to Tenerife and sorted the water the hard way — by not sorting it until things started breaking. That's why we built a company specifically to help other British expats avoid the same frustration. We know exactly what it's like to arrive full of excitement and then spend your first month lugging water bottles from Mercadona.
