Best Water Filter Tenerife: Which System Do You Need?
Three systems. Three price points. Three different problems they solve. This guide cuts through the noise so you can choose the right water filter for your situation — without overspending or buying the wrong thing.
The most common question we get from new enquiries is: "Which filter do I actually need?" The honest answer depends on what's bothering you most about the water. Appliances dying early, drinking water tasting off, hair and skin feeling different — different systems address these differently. This guide walks you through it simply.

The combination most of our customers choose
Whole house filter (€699) + reverse osmosis (€399) = total €1,098, both installed in the same visit. This gives you filtered water at every tap and appliance throughout the home, plus ultra-pure drinking water at a dedicated kitchen tap. It's the complete solution — and the most popular choice for British expats who've been here long enough to understand what the water does.
What a Filter Won't Do
A water filter won't fix existing limescale that's already built up in your appliances. If your washing machine element is already scaled, a filter stops new scale forming but doesn't remove the old deposits. For existing appliances, a descaling treatment before or after installation is a good idea.
A filter also won't fix a plumbing issue. If your pipes have a leak or low pressure, that's unrelated. Water filters address water quality — not water infrastructure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a €199 filter really worth it if it doesn't reduce limescale?
If you already drink bottled water and aren't bothered by the taste from the tap, genuinely no — you'd be paying for chlorine removal you're already avoiding. But if the taste of the tap water is what drives you to buy bottles, a carbon filter gives you drinkable tap water. For most people in Tenerife, the RO at €399 is the better investment because it actually addresses the mineral problem, not just the chlorine.
Do I need to own the property to have a filter installed?
No — many of our customers are long-term renters. Under-sink systems (carbon filter and RO) are relatively non-invasive and can usually be removed when you leave. A whole house filter requires work at the mains inlet and is best discussed with your landlord, though many landlords are receptive since it protects their appliances too. We can advise on what to say to a landlord if needed.
How long does installation take?
A carbon filter or RO system takes around 1–1.5 hours. A whole house system takes 1.5–3 hours depending on where the mains inlet is located and how accessible it is. If you're having both installed in the same visit, allow around 3 hours total. We do all the work — you don't need to be particularly available during the installation; just home.
